Facebook and Instagram advertising costs in 2026

Meta has no fixed price. What you pay in Belgium per 1,000 impressions, per click and per lead, what budget you really need and what comes on top of it.

Advertising on Facebook and Instagram has no fixed price: you choose your own budget, and an auction decides what you pay per click or lead [1][2]. Public data put the CPM for Belgium at around $8, for e-commerce [3]. To learn, Meta needs about 50 results per week per ad set, and that determines your real minimum budget [4].

Even if you outsource Meta Ads to a Facebook Ads agency, it pays to be able to do this calculation yourself: it tells you whether your budget is realistic. Every figure below comes with its source.

Work back from what a result may cost

Don't start from Meta's prices, but from your own margin. A service provider with customers worth €2,000 in revenue on average and a 30% margin earns €600 per customer. If one in ten leads becomes a customer, a lead may cost at most €60 to break even.

For a webshop it works the same way: an average order of €120 with a 40% margin allows €48 per first purchase, without repeat purchases. That amount is your yardstick for everything that follows.

How much budget Meta needs to learn

An ad set usually exits the learning phase after about 50 results in the week after the last significant edit [4]. During the learning phase, results are less stable and the cost per result is usually higher [4]. So multiply your expected cost per result by 50, and you have the weekly budget for a stable ad set.

Worked example based on Meta's learning phase rule [4]; the costs per result are example values.
What you optimise forCost per result (example)Per weekPer month
Leads with a short form€16€800~€3,470
Purchases in a webshop€30€1,500~€6,500
Quote requests via your website€40€2,000~€8,660

That is more than many SMEs want to spend, but no reason not to start. It is a reason to build smart:

  • One ad set instead of five. Meta itself recommends combining similar ad sets, because otherwise the system learns less per ad set [4].
  • A goal that happens more often, such as a lead via a Meta form instead of a quote on your website. Meta itself names that as an alternative to a higher budget [5].
  • Patience with "Learning limited". Such an ad set still delivers results, just less predictably. Judge it over four weeks instead of one.
  • Don't adjust every day, because every significant edit can restart the learning phase [4].

That is why Izoard's service page says meaningful testing starts at roughly €1,000 media budget per month. With that, you learn which message works, although for more expensive goals you won't reach 50 results per week yet. How to build ad sets and ads is covered in Meta campaign structure in 2026.

What a click and a lead cost today

Meta doesn't publish average prices per country. Two recent benchmarks do give figures per country or per campaign goal:

Lebesgue, 2026 [3]CPM in Belgium$7.96E-commerce accounts; sample and period not published

So the price per 1,000 impressions in Belgium is in the same range as in neighbouring countries. Your own cost per lead can differ widely from it, because it depends mainly on your ad and your page. A worked example with €1,000 per month and €8 per 1,000 impressions, good for 125,000 impressions:

Worked example (no client data). €8 per 1,000 impressions is a rounded example value.
ExampleClick-through rateConversionCost per lead
Weak ad, slow page0.6%3%~€45
Average1.0%5%~€16
Strong hook, short form1.5%8%~€6.70

The same budget, and still a sevenfold difference. In reality it is often even larger, because an ad people respond to also gets a better price in the auction [2].

How Meta charges you

Every time someone opens their feed, an auction decides which ad that person sees. The winner doesn't have the highest bid, but the highest total value: your bid, the chance that the person responds and the quality of your ad [2]. A more relevant ad can therefore beat a competitor with a higher bid [2].

You control spend with a daily budget or a lifetime budget [1]. A daily budget is not a ceiling: Meta may spend up to 75% more on a good day, but per week (Sunday to Saturday) never more than 7 times your daily budget [7]. With €30 a day, one day can therefore cost €52.50, but a week never more than €210.

If you work with a cost per result goal, your daily budget must be at least 5 times that goal [5]. If you want a lead to cost at most €20, set at least €100 a day.

Boosting from your Page or profile is the simplest option, but with fewer settings [1]. If you steer on leads or sales, you need Ads Manager to set up objective, measurement and exclusions properly.

What makes Belgium different

A small reach. At the end of 2025, Meta's advertising tools reported a reach of 6.20 million people on Facebook and 5.10 million on Instagram in Belgium [8]. If you target a province or a radius around your business, an ad wears out quickly, see creative fatigue on Meta.

Two languages, one budget. A separate campaign per language halves your results per ad set, and therefore your learning speed. Rather create one ad in several languages: Meta shows each person the right version and spreads the budget across the languages [9]. That works with a single image or a single video, not with dynamic creative [9].

VAT and location fees. Usually Meta Platforms Ireland invoices you: if you buy as a business, Meta doesn't add VAT and you check yourself whether you owe VAT [10]. If you also show your ads in France, you pay a 3% location fee on the impressions there, listed separately on your invoice; Belgium is not on that list [11].

What comes on top of your media budget

  • Creative. The ad has the biggest effect on your cost per lead, so count on a steady flow of new variants. What a video ad costs, traditional or with AI, is covered in what a video ad costs.
  • Measurement. Without correct measurement, Meta optimises on half the picture. What the Conversions API changes about that is covered in Meta Pixel or Conversions API.
  • Management. Your own time, a freelancer or an agency. At Izoard, the management fee is separate from the media budget, which you pay directly to Meta, and the creative comes from our own studio.

Frequently asked questions

What does a Facebook ad cost per day?

As much as you set yourself. Meta publishes no fixed minimum; Ads Manager warns you if your budget is too low. Do expect fluctuations: with a daily budget, Meta may spend up to 75% more on a good day, but never more than 7 times your daily budget per week.

Is advertising on Instagram more expensive than on Facebook?

There is no reliable public Belgian figure for that. By default, Meta spreads your budget itself across Facebook, Instagram and the other placements. Check the breakdown by platform in Ads Manager and decide on cost per result, not on the price per 1,000 impressions.

Can I start with 10 euros a day?

For reach or traffic, yes. For purchases or leads it is tight, because an ad set only exits the learning phase after about 50 results per week. Then choose one ad set and a goal that happens more often, or accept that you need to measure for longer.

Should I create separate campaigns for Dutch and French?

Not necessarily. With one ad in several languages, Meta shows each person the right language version, and your data stays in one ad set. Separate ad sets do make sense if your offer, price or landing page genuinely differs per region.
