An SME website in Belgium costs roughly €500 to €20,000 in 2026 [1], [2]. With most providers, a site of five to ten pages sits between €1,500 and €4,000 [1], [2], [3], [4]. What comes back every year decides whether it stays cheap, so compare on the cost over three years.
To be upfront: we are not neutral. At Izoard you can get a website built with AI for €3,000 all-in. That is why we work with other people's prices below, always with a source, and say when a different kind of site suits you better.
What Belgian providers charge
These five providers publish price ranges, collected on 27 September 2026. Most of them are their estimate of the market, not their own rates, and they usually do not mention VAT.
| Source | Simple site | SME site (5–10 p.) | Web shop |
|---|---|---|---|
| DYsign [1] | €500–1,500 | €1,500–3,500 | €5,000–15,000 |
| Digimi [2] | €500–1,500 | €1,500–3,500 | €5,000–15,000 |
| Webstijl [3] | €800–1,500 | €1,500–4,000 | €1,500–10,000+ |
| Fuseo [4] | from €836 | €1,500–3,000 | not stated |
| LeadCo [5] | €500–2,000 (landing page) | €1,000–3,000 (template), €2,500–6,000 (custom) | €2,000–25,000 |
The grouping is ours. Fuseo calls €1,500 to €3,000 a basic site with a handful of pages and puts an extensive SME site at €4,000 to €6,500 [4]. DYsign and Digimi publish identical ranges: more likely one set of figures doing the rounds than two separate measurements.
What determines the price
Who builds it matters most. DYsign estimates building it yourself with Wix or Squarespace at €0 to €50 a month, a freelancer at €1,500 to €4,000 and a specialised agency at €3,500 to €15,000 [1].
What it is built with mainly determines what you pay later:
- A website builder (Wix, Squarespace, AI builders) is cheap to start with, but you rent the platform.
- WordPress with a theme and plugins is flexible, but you have to keep updating every plugin.
- A static site is plain HTML and CSS, with no database or plugins; that is how we build, with AI.
- Fully custom work, for example in React or Next.js, LeadCo estimates at €4,000 to €10,000 for five to ten pages [5].
Which technology suits you is covered in WordPress or a static website.
What comes on top often makes a cheap quote more expensive. The extras the sources mention:
- an extra language: 15 to 50% per language [2], [5];
- copy by a copywriter: €50 to €300 per page [2], [5];
- professional photos: €300 to €2,000 [1], [5];
- a booking or reservation system: €1,000 to €5,000 [2], [5];
- a link to your CRM or accounting software: €500 to €4,000 [2], [5].
What a website costs per year
| Item | What the sources mention | Needed? |
|---|---|---|
| Domain name | €10–50 per year [1], [2] | Yes |
| Hosting | €10–50 per month [1], [2] | Yes, though it can be free for a static site |
| Maintenance and security | €40–150 per month [1], [2] | With WordPress: yes |
| SEO programme | from €350 per month [1] | Optional |
Benjamin explains what an SEO programme costs and how it is priced in what SEO costs per month.
With WordPress, maintenance is no luxury. Patchstack counted 11,334 new vulnerabilities in the WordPress ecosystem in 2025, 91% of them in plugins. For the most heavily attacked flaws, the median time to the first attack was five hours [6].
A static site has no plugins and no database, so there is little to patch. Hosting can be free at normal traffic, because Cloudflare does not charge for requests to static files [7]. Plans and limits can change, though.
Worked example over three years
A worked example, not a quote, excluding VAT. The domain (€75 over three years) is included in the total.
| Scenario | Build | Hosting and maintenance (36 mo) | Total over 3 years |
|---|---|---|---|
| A. Website builder at €30/mo | €0 | €1,080 | €1,155 + your own time |
| B. WordPress with an agency | €3,500 | €3,600 (€25 + €75/mo) | €7,175 |
| C. Static site with Izoard | €3,000 | €0 | €3,075 |
| D. Same, with monthly care at €200/mo | €3,000 | €7,200 | €10,275 |
- A is the cheapest in euros, but count your own hours.
- The difference between B and C lies mainly in 36 months of hosting and maintenance, not in the build.
- D costs more than B, and that is not a mistake. Our monthly care is not plugin maintenance but support, SEO, GEO, tracking and content. It is optional and you can cancel it monthly.
VAT and subsidies
VAT. Web design is subject to the standard rate of 21% [8]. If you fall under the exemption scheme for small businesses (annual turnover up to €25,000), you cannot deduct VAT [9]: a €3,000 site then costs you €3,630.
Subsidies. The Flemish kmo-portefeuille (SME wallet) does not cover building a site, and since 1 February 2026 it no longer covers advice about your site either [10]. Exporters can get a lump sum of €3,000 or €4,500 from Flanders Investment & Trade for a multilingual site [11]. In Brussels, the digitalisation grant covers a consultancy assignment around your site, under conditions [12]; in Wallonia, the chèque Maturité numérique has been scrapped since 12 July 2026 [13].
Apply for that support before you sign. The overview per region, with the deadlines, is in subsidies for your website in 2026.
How to compare two quotes
Ask every provider the same questions:
- What is included? Pages, copy, images, languages and feedback rounds.
- Whose name are the domain, hosting and code in? Your company's.
- What does year two cost, and does the site stay secure without maintenance?
- How does the traffic from your old site move over? A good answer mentions a 301 redirect per old URL.
- Can AI search engines read the site? More on that in how to get found in ChatGPT.
- What does a change cost, and can you make it yourself?
Which site suits your SME?
- Just starting out, with more time than budget? A website builder will do for now.
- Selling online, with stock and payments? Then you need a web shop. We don't build those.
- Need logins or a customer portal? That is a software project.
- Publishing daily with several editors? Then a CMS such as WordPress can be worth its maintenance.
- Want a site that brings in enquiries? Then a fast static site is often the cheapest and safest choice over three years.
That last kind is what we build, with AI and checked page by page by a senior. For €3,000 one-off, excl. VAT, you get keyword research, the build with two feedback rounds, GA4, consent, Search Console and your own Custom GPT for changes, in as many languages as you need. Domain, code and accounts are in your name; monthly care is optional, at €200 a month.
You can look at examples yourself on your phone: the sites of Lumen bv (landscaping), Rymenans Advocaten and izoard.be. Already have a site and want to know first what it is leaving on the table? Start with the free website scan: you get the findings and a conversation, whatever you decide afterwards.
Frequently asked questions
What does a simple website for a freelancer or SME cost?
According to five Belgian providers, a one-pager or simple site costs around €500 to €1,500, and an SME site of five to ten pages usually €1,500 to €4,000. What is included, such as copy, design, SEO and languages, explains the difference.
What does a website cost per year?
Count on €10 to €50 a year for your domain, €10 to €50 a month for classic hosting and €40 to €150 a month to maintain a WordPress site. A static site has no plugins to update and can be hosted for free at normal traffic.
Is a website built with AI cheaper, and is it good enough?
Building goes faster, so it costs less. Whether the result is good depends on who drives the AI: a DIY builder gives you a template, an agency uses AI for the code and people for research, structure, copy and review.
Can I get a subsidy for my website?
Rarely for a regular SME site: the Flemish kmo-portefeuille does not cover the build, and since 1 February 2026 no longer covers advice about your site either. Exporters can get a lump sum from FIT for a multilingual site, and Brussels has the digitalisation grant. Apply before the work starts.
Why do website quotes differ so much?
Because they contain different things: a template or a custom design, your copy or a copywriter's, one language or three, basic SEO or keyword research, with or without maintenance. So compare on content and on the cost over three years.
